Avery “Winkie” West Foster
Avery “Winkie” West Foster earned her undergraduate degree from Miami University in Oxford and completed her Master Degree from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. She continued her education by taking several summer courses through Xavier University. Winkie started her career teaching at Little Miami High School from 1961-1963. In September 1963, Winkie was hired to teach several subjects, College Prep English, Journalism, Sociology and English III. Not only did she teach, she was also the yearbook advisor for 25 years and the advisor for the Tiger’s Tongue school newspaper for 26 years.
Winkie was very active in Loveland and the surrounding community. She was involved with many organizations serving in many positions some of which are listed below.

Member of the Loveland Woman’s Club 40+ years, President 2003-2005
Member of the Hamilton Township Literary Club - 30 years+

Member of the Loveland Historical Society, also served on the Board
Resident Council Nominations Chair at Otterbein - 2 years
On the personal side, Winkie was married to the Reverend Thomas Foster for 33 years. She lived in or near Loveland most of her adult life. Winkie also created life long friendships with those who worked alongside her at Loveland High School. Many students remember Mrs. Foster for her teaching, wisdom and guidance, several who still keep in touch with her. Avery “Winkie” West Foster was one of those teachers whose impact remained with her students long after graduation.
