Dr. Kathryn Lorenz Scholarship

This scholarship is made possible through the generous gifts to the Loveland Schools Foundation in honor of the many years of service that Dr. Kathryn Lorenz has devoted to the Loveland City School District. This scholarship will be awarded for one year to a graduating senior of Loveland High School attending an accredited two or four year college, university, or technical school. This scholarship is not limited by school attended or course of study but first time post-secondary entrants from a family will be given special consideration.

Seth Mitchell Memorial Scholarship

A 1997 graduate of Loveland High School, Captain Seth Mitchell embodied the ideals of loyalty. friendship and selflessness. After graduation, Seth attended Virginia Tech and attained his dream of becoming a pilot in the United States Marine Corps. He died serving his country in Afghanistan in October 2009. This scholarship was established, in Seth’s honor, by his many classmates and friends. The scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior who embodies the same qualities as Seth, those of service and determination.

“Let Us Never Forget” Seth Mitchell Scholarship

Captain Seth Mitchell was a 1997 LHS graduate. His lifelong dream was to become a pilot taking his first “solo” flight in a glider at the age of 12. Seth participated in football, track and student council where was elected as president his senior year,. One turning point in Seth’s life was getting involved in Student Venture, the high school ministry of the Campus Crusade for Christ. Through all this Seth developed leadership skills that would serve him well in the future. After graduation Seth enrolled at Virginia Tech in the ROTC program. On November 1st 2005, Seth achieved the rank of Captain. Through much determination and training, Seth earned his wings in May 2007 and was later qualified to fly the AH-1 Super Cobra Helicopter. On October 30, 2009, Captain Mitchell was killed when two helicopters collided while supporting combat operations in Afghanistan's Helmand province. The “Let Us Never Forget” Seth Mitchell Scholarship is awarded to the applicant who most embodies the spirit of Seth Mitchell.

Chuck & Karen Waple Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is made possible through the generous gifts to the Foundation by family and friends of the Waple family. Chuck Waple was a public school superintendent with the Loveland City School District and the Wyoming City School District. Karen Waple taught Kindergarten with Mason City Schools for more than 30 years and was also a substitute teacher in the Loveland City School District for 20 years. With their lifelong passion for serving others through teaching and community service, the candidate for this scholarship should be pursuing one of the following majors: Teaching, Nursing, Social Work, Health Service Management, Criminal Justice or Public Administration.

One of the highlights for the Loveland Schools Foundation is awarding our senior scholarships. The Foundation offers several scholarships in partnership with the scholarship sponsor. $25,500 in scholarships were given out at the Senior Awards Program held on April 30th. We are proud to announce the 2025 scholarship recipients.
